I love passing on studies about chocolate. Probably because it’s one of my favorite food groups (it’s not really) and one food I definitely indulge in. So here it goes:
There was a recent study in JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association) that included 44 healthy middle-age adults. Half of the group ate 30 calories of dark chocolate everyday and the other half ate white chocolate. The group that ate the dark chocolate significantly lowered their systolic and diastolic blood pressure in just 18 weeks. The half who ate the same amount of white chocolate saw no improvement in their blood pressure.
Sounds good enough to me! More and more studies are revealing the health benefits of dark chocolate. The reason is because dark chocolate is loaded with antioxidants, even more than red wine or green tea. Try finding a chocolate with 70% cocoa or higher to get your fix. The darker the chocolate the better and all you need is a small piece. But don’t go bingeing on the stuff, it can lead to unwanted calories and pounds.
