Be careful with your new years’ diet resolutions. “Sugar-free” products may contain enough sorbitol to make your life miserable and send you to your doctor. If you have symptoms of weight loss and diarrhea, start reading labels in sugar free or diet foods and even your toothpaste for this product.
I have seen many patients that complain of IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) symptoms in the form of gas/bloating, constipation or diarrhea. I go through their diet in such detail to identify foods or products in their foods that they may be sensitive to. Check the ingredients in what you eat or put in your mouth (toothpaste, lipstick, etc), if you suffer from gastrointestinal symptoms. Sorbitol is an easy one to catch.
