Vitamin D has been in the media for some time now.

This fat-soluble vitamin (and hormone precursor) enhances the absorption of calcium and phosphorous, plays a role in neuromuscular function, modulates immune function, and prevents both infections and autoimmune diseases. That’s quite a tall list of health benefits for 1 vitamin.

New research indicates that low levels of this vitamin is associated with a greater risk of breathing problems like wheezing, and respiratory infections in infants and young children. More research will be conducted to see if supplementation is a good idea.

You can find healthy Vitamin D levels for children and adults on the website http://dietary-supplements.info.nih.gov/factsheets/vitamind.asp. Assessed March 26, 2010.
