Chronic Middle Ear Infections: What you can Do (and Not Do)

Some new studies are showing that chronic ear infections are linked to a resistant biofilm bacteria. This is a type of bacteria in the ear that is resistant to antibiotics and has its own defense mechanism that prevents it from breaking down.
In other words, kids with chronic ear infections should NOT be treated with antibiotics!

In our clinic, I treat kids with herbs such as mullein flower, licorice, echinacea, propolis, and probiotiics (acidophilus lactobacilli) taken orally. An ear drop made by “eclectic institute” containing mullein, St John’s wort and garlic works beautifully in treating infections.
Diet is something I always talk to parents about. Avoiding dairy, gluten and sugars can reduce bacterial growth as well as strengthen the immune system.

Direct evidence of bacterial biofilms has been found on the middle ear tissue of children who suffer from chronic ear infections, according to a study published today in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) by researchers from the Allegheny Singer Research Institute (ASRI) at Allegheny……
