For kids’ coughs, silence is golden and sweet

I have been seeing a lot of adults and children with cough and viral infections at the clinic the past two weeks. It’s no surprise since it’s mid-January and the peak of upper respiratory infections.
One of the most frustrating things is to find a cough remedy that really works! Many people will first try the common over-the-counter cough syrup known as dextromethorphan. A study last year showed that this cough medicine was no more effective than placebo. I have to say, I agree. Very rarely will I have any patients tell me that their cough improved.

According to a report by the American Medical Association, buckwheat honey might be your best bet in having a quiet night.
