WOW! What a concept. This longitudinal study actually showed that teens and young adults who expressed more positive emotions (which I suppose they defined as happy) had a tendency to have higher incomes by the time they were 29. The big question is whether this effect comes from the assumption that happy people are more motivated and see the world in a more positive way; or is it that others give happy people more opportunities?
Either way, I believe that happy people attract positive experiences and that their optimism is contagious.
Sure, they may come across some resistant people. Lets face it, there’s plenty of things to be frustrated, sad and fearful about including the economy, the war in Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, the Gaza strip, Hostess “Twinkies” going bankrupt and a very uncertain future! How can we rise above all this?
If we can hold our center and perform even small acts of kindness, the world will be a better place. And maybe we can even make alittle more money on the side.
