Women’s Health: Los Angeles Times Examines Association Between Breast Cancer Risk, Obesity

Obese women are 2-3 times more likely to die from breast cancer. We have heard this before. The question is…is there a higher risk (or lower risk) of developing breast cancer dependent on WHEN a women is obese in her lifetime.

The Los Angeles Times on Monday examined the association between obesity and the risk of developing breast cancer. According to the Times, a high body mass index for women of childbearing age appears to lower the risk of developing breast cancer; however, the risk increases for girls who have a high BMI before puberty or for postmenopausal women who have a high BMI.
