Here is another good reason to stay away from this artificial sweetener. The problem is…. it’s EVERYWHERE!

So many of the snacks that we enjoy are flavored with high-fructose corn syrup. The Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy randomly tested 55 popular food items that use this kind of corn syrup. A third of the products contained mercury. This heavy metal can cause serious kidney problems and effect brain development.
They detected mercury in nearly one in three of the 55 HFCS-containing food products that were tested.
They included some of these brand names: Quaker, Hunt’s,
Manwich, Hershey’s, Smucker’s, Kraft, Nutri-Grain and Yoplait.
Scientists suspect that the mercury in the foods is due to how it’s processed.

Dr. John Benitez is the managing director of the Tennessee Poison Center at Vanderbilt. He assures us that all the products are well below the legal levels of mercury, which according to the FDA is one part per million of mercury.
It might be legal, but do we really want this toxin in our food?
Many of the products tested in the study tested from 35 to 350 parts per trillion.

We know that mercury can be found in fish and other seafood. Now we need to read labels in all our foods and be suspicious of foods with HFCS. Mercury can get stored in our tissues, especially adipose tissue.
When will large processed food corporations begin to care about what goes into the food we eat?
They will probably start listening when we stop buying their products.
