A recent study at the University of California shows that Transcendental Meditation (TM), a discipline that uses words and sounds to help eliminate distracting thoughts, reduces the brain’s response to discomfort. Researchers used neuro-imaging to monitor 12 healthy people who had practiced TM for 30 years, and 12 others who had not. Topical heat was applied for 3 rounds. Those who used meditation showed a 40-50% lower brain response to pain than the others.

Meditation is a practice that we can all incorporate in our lives. This is one study that shows how the power of the mind can give us peace mentally and physically.
