Did you know that the average woman uses 4-9 pounds of lipstick in a lifetime!!
Unfortunately, many of the brands you see contain aluminum, lead, petroleum products and potentially carcinogenic preservatives.
On average, a person can use as many as 25 different cosmetics and skin care products containing more than 200 different chemical compounds. Some of these compounds may be the lead in your lipstick, mercury in mascara and formaldehyde in hair straightening treatments.
It’s interesting that we have no regulatory agency to ensure the safety of the personal care products we use everyday. The FDA does not require companies to do safety testing on their cosmetic products. Some of these products can cause cancer, mutations, birth defects and other health problems.
So how do you know what products are safe to use? Look for companies that have signed a pledge known as the Compact for Safe Cosmetics. Some well known cosmetic companies have NOT signed this compact such as OPI, Avon, Estee Lauder, L’Oreal, and Revlon.
