I love writing about chocolate…..
Mainly because it helps me confirm (and rationalize) why it’s OK to eat it. Well, here’s another study giving evidence in HOW it’s healthy for our heart.
Our gut is made up of billions of bacteria that we’re finding has tremendous benefits for our overall health including enhancing the immune system, preventing growth of harmful species, manufacturing vitamins, and producing hormones that effect fat storage. Some of the newest research even shows how these mighty microbes can effect our mood, prevent obesity and may even prevent certain chronic diseases.
Apparently some of these “good” bacteria, such as Bifidobacterium loves chocolate as much as we do and feeds on it. The bacteria grow and produce anti-inflammatory compounds which reduces cardiovascular disease and the risk of stroke.
So, it’s OK to have a few ounces of dark chocolate (above 65% cocoa) as a snack or dessert.
Here’s another study to let you know it’s good for you!
