The microbes (primarily in our gut) we harbor not only affects our vulnerability to diseases, how much weight we put on, our susceptibility to infections and our mood, but it can also make us more attractive to our future mates. When mammals choose mates based on the “glow’ of their health, they are choosing a set of genes as well as a microbial community that may facilitate reproduction.
